A Great Way To Make New Friends In Glasgow

At Glasglow Girls Club, we’ve spent years building a safe, supportive space for women in Glasgow and beyond – both online and in-person. And over time, one thing has become increasingly clear: so many women are craving real, meaningful connection.

We know it can feel nerve-wracking to show up to something new – especially if you’re coming solo. But trust us when we say: everyone’s in the same boat, and our events are built to make that first step feel easy.

We started The Pal Project because we saw a need. A need for friendship that goes beyond a double-tap on Instagram or a passing comment in a group chat. A need for low-pressure, feel-good spaces where women can connect, laugh, and feel like they truly belong.

🤳 Combatting Loneliness

We’re more connected that ever and yet…more women than ever are reporting deep feelings of loneliness, especially in early adulthood. A recent Belonging Forum study found that nearly half of UK women aged 18–24 experience persistent loneliness.

But it doesn’t stop there. Research from the Campaign to End Loneliness shows that women in their late 20s to mid-40s are also experiencing high levels of loneliness – often tied to big life transitions like moving city, career shifts, or navigating motherhood.

The BBC Loneliness Experiment with UCL (which surveyed over 55,000 people) found that loneliness can hit at any stage of life  but is often most intense during times of change. Women in their 30s, in particular, reported feeling most isolated during career pivots, relationship breakdowns, or early motherhood.

It’s heartbreaking, but we see this reality every week in the GGC Facebook group of almost 50,000 women. Ladies from all walks of life – in their 20s, 30s, 40s and beyond – are craving connection beyond the virtual spaces.

And while our phones might buzz constantly, the reality is: many of us still feel disconnected.

💡 So We Created The Pal Project

The Pal Project is a monthly series of themed social events, hosted in Glasgow, designed to help women of all ages make friends in a relaxed and welcoming way.

These are not networking nights or awkward mixers. This isn’t about making “besties on demand” or handing out name badges like it’s speed dating. It’s about real connection – that happens naturally when the pressure’s off and the paintbrushes (or tarot cards!) are out.

Think:

🎲 Games Nights – laid-back quizzes and board games that spark conversation without pressure
🎨 Crafty Sessions & Paint & Sip Evenings – fun, creative get-togethers where friendships form naturally
🎤 Live Music, Tarot & Comedy Nights – nostalgic joy, shared laughs, and soulful chats

All held at the warm, retro-inspired Glow Hub in the city centre, where there’s always a seat for you at the table — whether you’re coming solo or with someone.

💬 Why It Matters

Friendship shouldn’t feel like a chore. But as we get older, life gets busier – and between relationships, work, family and personal growth, many of us forget to nurture the kind of deep connections that light us up.

We’ve had incredible interest in Pal Project events already – but here’s the paradox: women are lonely and want connection, but many feel nervous to put themselves out there. That’s why our events focus on shared experiences – like painting, quizzing or crafting – where the friendship naturally follows.

And this doesn’t just apply to your social life. 66% of female founders report experiencing extreme isolation. That’s why our business community, The Glow Club, also offers spaces to connect regularly, swap stories, and support one another as we build our dreams.

💛 Together, We Can Make a Difference

With The Pal Project we want to normalise women saying “Actually, I feel a bit lonely.” We want to normalise needing connection — and help each other find it.

The Pal Project is our invitation to you. Come as you are. You don’t need to be the life of the party. You just need to show up. Because you never know who might be sitting across the table… ready to become your next best pal.
