Name, business name – Evonne Turner, Partick Thistle’s Women’s Team

Tell us about your businesses, the inspiration behind it and when you launched it? I have recently joined the board of the Partick Thistle Women’s Team.  My main inspiration for getting involved was the team.  All these girls have Full Time roles however commit to training 3 days a week and  football games at the weekend.  They don’t have the financials behind them like the ‘bigger’ teams in the Women’s league nor are they Full Time like these teams however STILL managed to gain a place in the top 6 last season.  I find the team ballsy, inspiring, powerful and determined, all the reasons why I want to be part of it.

Best piece of advice you were given at the start of your business journey? We have a mountain to climb but we all have the mountaineering boots to do it.

What has been your biggest lesson/ challenge faced so far and how did you overcome it? So potentially still at the challenge stage.  I think so many barriers are up re women’s football still, which is what we need to educate on firstly after all it is her game too.  The exposure women’s football is getting at the moment is fantastic however we just need to get people along to watch the most honest game of football you will see, true to form the ladies get knocked down but get right back up again and get on with it.

What is your number 1 business tip for success? Build and support relationships, what you get back is tenfold.

What are the big business goals for 2023/24? Biggest goal in Season 23/24 is to remain somewhere in the top 6 of the league and to create more interest in PTWFC that generates more ticket sales and sponsorship.

How can the GGC Business membership help? A little bit of Girl Power behind our team always helps regardless of what form it comes in.  you could come along to a match, buy a season ticket, be a sponsor or just spread the word of these incredible girls who are making the dreams of wee girls come true.

What’s the dream? To win the league and to be in a position to encourage and support girls/women’s football in Glasgow.  Be role models and a team young girls aspire to join.

Fave mantra to get you buzzed up for business – When you win nothing hurts!  At my age too many things hurt now lol so let’s get focused and ready to win.

Shout out to another local business you admire? It’s really difficult to pinpoint one as we have some fantastic sponsors.  We admire each and everyone of them.
