Meet the Member – Debay De Lux, Debay De Lux Tattoos

Name, business name

Debay De Lux, Debay De Lux Tattoos

Tell us about your businesses, the inspiration behind it and when you launched it?

I am a tattoo artist and I co-own Dollhaus Family which is a studio/salon space.
I was inspired primarily by my own taste and clientele. I felt like the tattoo industry is a very masculine place with most studios reflecting that.
I wanted to create a warm, calm and feminine space unlike any id seen, that creates a safe place for Female Identifying, queer, NB and even neurodivergent people. These demographics often don’t feel confident going into tattoo studios, and I wanted to change that narrative.

Best piece of advice you were given at the start of your business journey?

I think in general I always carry the same advice with me wherever I go. Keep your head down, focus on yourself, don’t lose sight of your goals. It sounds simple but it’s so easy to get side-tracked with what we should be doing, what others are doing and are they doing it better.  Of course be inspired, use it to better yourself, but don’t let comparison cause you to doubt yourself. Also that we always have room to learn and grow, no matter what stage you think you’re at

What has been your biggest lesson/ challenge faced so far and how did you overcome it?

Moving. My last move was easy and this time we faced a lot of difficulties. I just had to keep advocating for myself, instead of being pushed over. Even though I wanted to hide from the issues

Self doubt is always my biggest challenge but I overcome it but listening and observing to my clients. They always make me feel better firstly, but also watching and listening to how you can be better and overcome your worries

What is your number 1 business tip for success?

Let your own personality shine through. In the she of socials people want that connection, and they will be drawn to you because your personalities align. Don’t be scared to show a little of your quirks.

Also, look at your business from a consumer perspective. We often forget to do this and I try do it a couple times a year and ask myself what I can do better

What are the big business goals for the next year?

I’m currently moving studios and hope to expand with a larger team

How can the GGC Business membership help?

I’m hoping to firstly maybe connect me with the right person for Dollhaus but also to keep me connected with my community. Being self employed can be secular and it’s good to have like minded people to share dreams and goals with
