Meet the Member – Allison Hunter-Weir, The Creat1st

‘Meet The Member’ is our blog series where we get to know the members of our business club a little better. In this post, we catch up with Allison Hunter-Weir, The Creat1st

Name: Allison, business name – TheCreat1st

Tell us about your businesses, the inspiration behind it and when you launched it –  I trained as a digital artist back before instagram or tick tock were even a thing. In fact I am pretty sure when I first started out myspace and bebo were still the latest trend. I love designing but wanted to do something more in line with my own interests and lifestyle and thus the creat1st was born. All my designs are limited edition so are only available for a short period of time and all have been influenced by my own life experiences. I have spent the last few years sketching, designing and working with suppliers and in 2023 it was finally time to launch. I hope you love my designs as much as I do.

Best piece of advice you were given at the start of your business journey – believe in yourself first because if you don’t believe in what you’re doing no one else will.

What has been your biggest lesson/ challenge faced so far and how did you overcome it – imposter syndrome. It really took me a long time to learn to back myself and believe that if others could do it then I could too. Becoming a mum helped me with this. If I can bring two humans into the world and keep them alive on a daily basis then how hard could starting your own business be?

What is your number 1 business tip for success – create a schedule and try where possible to stick to it. It’s really easy to lose focus.

What are the big business goals? – I’m in the process of redesigning a few things. After my launch last year I’ve learned lots and there are a few things I would like to change. Watch this space !

How can the GGC Business membership help – be there for me when the imposter syndrome kicks back in!

What’s the dream? I currently still teach to supplement my business (being a mother of two girls is expensive) . I would love to be successful enough to give that up and create a secure future for my family.

Fave mantra to get you buzzed up for business – Don’t wait for opportunity, create it

Shout out to another local business you admire? Love Ocho. It’s a great little cafe and the food is amazing.
