Meet the Member – Melissa Pick, Elite Social Collective

Name, business name

Melissa Pick, Elite Social Collective

Tell us about your businesses, the inspiration behind it and when you launched it?

Elite Social Collective is my new business venture after graduating my BA(Hons) International Marketing degree at Glasgow Caledonian. The dream has always been to start my own boutique agency, and now was the perfect time!

Best piece of advice you were given at the start of your business journey?

Cliché but ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day’. I 100% tend to get ahead of myself an I just want things done asap, but building my business slowly piece by piece has proven to be extremely more productive and successful.

What has been your biggest lesson/ challenge faced so far and how did you overcome it?

As a neurodivergent girly it hasn’t always been easy to focus (hence why I tend to just rush things), however working a schedule that suits me and my busy brain has really helped my business grow, along with being fundamental to my mental health! I have learned to take each day as it comes and not worry so much about the future and the million ideas and worries flooding my mind.

What is your number 1 business tip for success?

Be authentic. You cannot sign a client if you are putting on a front as this will be extremely hard to maintain a relationship with them. Be yourself from day one.

What are the big business goals for the next year?

My biggest goal is to be fully self employed. I currently work a full time office job 9-5 Monday- Friday, shifts at the local prom dress shop on Saturday and Sundays, AND working on my own business and clients. I’ve managed to avoid burn out so far but I know that wont last forever. So the goal is to be self-employed and put all my effort and attention into my own business!

How can the GGC Business membership help?

As I am in the early days of launching my business, I would really love to meet new ladies through networking and being part of a collective. I have already met some of the girls In GGC, and it actually made me apply for the membership after meeting them. The energy is so warm in this community, I just had to join!

What’s the dream?

To grow my business and have a team of creatives working alongside me at Elite Social Collective.

Fave mantra to get you buzzed up for business!

‘Practice makes permanent’ This just means that small habits are really powerful, and practising them can have a lasting permanent shift in your life.

Shout out to another local business you admire?

I would 100% have to say Polly Rose Boutique, my part-time job. The girls have been so supportive with my new business and giving me lots of insight into the reality of being self-employed. Their guidance has really helped and inspired me.

Three fun facts about you!

I went to Greece by myself for a month and fell in love with solo travelling. I used to have a cupcake business (turns out I liked the marketing side more than the actual baking!), and I’m an absolute thrill seeker who loves rollercoasters and being out of my comfort zone!
