Meet the Member – Emma and Aminah, The Clean Beauty Club
Name – Emma and Aminah
Business – The Clean Beauty Club
Tell us about your businesses, the inspiration behind it and when you launched it?
A – The Clean Beauty Club began years ago when Emma created a magical cleanser purely for herself and us to use. Over time, after experimenting with wholesale, we found ourselves drawn back to that original cleanser. It just seemed to solve so many people’s skincare challenges, so we decided to share it and see where it could go. 😍 Needless to say, people also thought it was magic, and it’s been snowballing ever since! We’ve always been inspired to provide gentle yet powerful skincare that delivers undeniable results. Along the way, we’ve been dedicated to building a wellness community, keeping everything as authentic and ethical as possible, and giving back to the planet by planting trees. We’ve always loved the idea of creating something that feels like a magic potion—a little treasure that people are thrilled to have found. 💎
E – I always say that Aminah was the driving force behind the transformation into the Clean Beauty Club. She was absolutely determined that we would create something to take out into the world that truly made a difference in people’s lives—something we could stand behind with complete pride and zero doubts. That’s when Wonder Balm was born, and it became the heart of the business we have today.
Best piece of advice you were given at the start of your business journey?
A – The best piece of advice I’ve ever been given is not to let perfectionism ruin the business. Honestly, I laugh now when I think about it, but it’s so true! Another key lesson is to never stop learning and investing in yourself. Pushing yourself outside your comfort zone will propel you in ways you might never expect.
E – Honestly, we’ve been taking advice throughout our entire journey, and it’s constantly evolving. But one thing that stands out is this: Don’t spend a load of money at the very start of a business idea. Your idea will naturally change, morph, and grow as you go, and if you throw money at it too early, it can feel like you’re just wasting it. Save the spending for when you truly need it.
Another key piece of advice is that your business is only as big as you believe it can be. So, any work you do on yourself—your mindset, your confidence, your vision—is work on your business. That’s been a game-changer for us.
What has been your biggest lesson/ challenge faced so far and how did you overcome it?
A – There have been quite a few challenges, but the one that stands out most recently is the aftermath of Covid. The shift back to “normal” life had such a noticeable impact—not just on the business but on life in general. During lockdown, we had everyone’s attention and focus, but as people returned to their routines, we felt the ripple effects. Personally, I’ve learned so many lessons about myself—my strengths, my weaknesses—and how my love for what I do has carried me through tense and difficult moments.
E – Being the faces of the company and always putting ourselves forward was a huge challenge at first. At the beginning, there’s this desire to just create something, put it out into the world, and hope it sells because it’s brilliant. But the truth is, no matter how amazing your product is, you have to actively get it out there. It’s your job to make sure people know about it. Now, it’s actually one of the most fun parts of our business, but it wasn’t always easy!
What is your number 1 business tip for success?
A – Believe fully in your vision, even when no one else can see it. It’s amazing how your drive can inspire others. Before you know it, you’ll have a talented and skilled team working with you toward your goals.
E – Love the thing you’re selling so much that you genuinely want people to have it. If you have any doubts about your product—whether it’s not quite what you say it is, or it’s not something you’d personally want—it will always hold you back. Loving your product as much as you say you do is essential.
What are the big business goals for the next year?
A – We have an incredible plan to give away 20,000 Wonder Balms this year! #Project20 is our big focus right now because we’re so confident people will love it once they’ve tried it. We’re beyond excited about this goal.
E – Our goal is simple: to get Wonder Balm into the hands of as many people as humanly possible so they can experience just how incredible it is. We also want to get back to connecting with people in person. So much of what we’ve done has been through social media, which has been amazing for our business, but now we’re ready to meet people face-to-face again.
How can the GGC Business membership help?
A – Through connection, cultivating relationships, and being visible in such a valuable space. You ladies are absolutely superb!
E – The GGC business membership has been brilliant—it connects us with other business owners to collaborate, share stories, and support each other. It’s also a fantastic way to introduce Wonder Balm to so many new people.
What’s the dream?
A – Our mission is to create a wellness community and beautiful, safe spaces where people can explore different ways to care for themselves and others. We hope Wonder Balm can help forge that path.
E – The dream? To have more and more people discover how incredible Wonder Balm is, to know they can rely on it to help them in their lives, and to grow our creativity and connection with others. We’re passionate about wellness and self-development, but we bring a bit of humour and lightness to it. We love weaving that into our business and can’t wait to expand on it in new ways.
Fave mantra to get you buzzed up for business
A – Emma will know exactly what I mean when I say this, but she might not realise I do it! Whenever I need to get buzzed about the business, I think one thing: TAMBOURINE! And I’ll leave you with that! 😅
E – When we started our very first business, we were in the office on day one, and I asked, “What song are we listening to?” Aminah said, Let’s Dance by David Bowie, and that was the first song we played. Music has always been a huge part of our journey—it’s less about mantras and more about songs that connect us to what we want to do. Music takes us back to different moments in our journey and inspires us to keep going.
Shout out to another local business you admire?
We’d love to shout out to Refuweegee, a community-led charity in Glasgow. The work they do is absolutely incredible and reaches far beyond the area they operate in. Big love to them. ♥️
Three fun facts about you!
A – Oh gosh, I’m genuinely quite boring! 😅 But here goes:
- I’m obsessed with conspiracy theories, UFO dramas, and anything paranormal.
- Before my knees gave up on me, I could jump really high for someone so tiny.
- I used to model when I was younger, but that career ended when I didn’t make it past 5’1”! 😅
E – I love me some super woo. Human design? Let’s do it. Tarot? Why would I ask anyone else?? Crystals? In my bra. But I also take it all with a pinch of salt and ignore it all, too 😅
We’ve known each other for 22 years and been in business in some form or another for 18. It’s taken us to some crazy places – like Lady Gaga’s dressing room on tour and meeting the (now) King. We for some reason decided it was absolutely imperative we went to Greggs for a macaroni pie ten minutes before shaking hands with him – but it was tasty so we don’t regret it.
I love me some cold water. I’m one of those people who’s brain clicks into total euphoria when I get in a plunge pool.
