‘Warriors Witches and Damn Rebel Bitches’ by Mairi Kidd

April Book Club
Hey ladies, fancy reading something a little different together this month?
Feminism is going to be a bit of a hot topic for the rest of the year for the GGC and both the historial and new wave movement (which we are all a part of shaping) has inspired both the GGC branding and new-look website (which I hope to launch to you all this summer).
With this in mind, I would love to make the focus of our books to be strong and empowering women-centered texts that tell stories of women who had made their own waves in female equality.
There is no pressure to get involved with the read-alongs, but if you see a book that resonates then please do. Some months will culminate in a get-together or a virtual chat to share the learnings, thoughts and feelings on what we have covered.
This month, I wanted to look back in time at women who were ballsy change-makers in Scotland. Introducing;
‘Warriors Witches and Damn Rebel Bitches’ by Mairi Kidd
About the book
Throughout history, Scottish women have broken the rules with attitude. WILLIAMINA FLEMING reached for the stars and took Harvard by storm. MARY SOMERVILLE challenged prejudice to claim the title ‘scientist’ for women. EFFIE GRAY knew the power of language to name and shame bullies and belittlers. AGNES RANDOLPH stood up to a siege and owned every minute of it like a boss. Inspirational and fierce in every sense, these sisters will fire you up to face your own modern-day dilemmas with serious style. ‘I loved these powerful, moving and inspiring stories about women and sisterhood. I know so many activists and change-makers who will connect with this brilliant book and I can’t wait to share it with the women in my life.’ DAISY BUCHANAN”
